Overview
Microsoft Teams stores data across multiple locations, including SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange. Effective storage management ensures smooth operation and avoids disruptions.
Checking Your Current Storage
To check your storage:
- In Teams (web or desktop app) navigate to your team's General channel.
- Click Files in the upper navigation menu.
- Look for the three dots drop down in the menu that appears below the navigation menu. Click the dots.

- Choose Open in SharePoint. Your browser will open and display the files in SharePoint.

- Click on Documents.
- Click the three dots next to the folder you want to check the storage for.

- Click on Details.

- Click on More Details.
- Scroll to bottom of details window to see folder total size.

How to Clear Space
Start with the oldest.
If a folder hasn’t had an update in years, it might be a good candidate for cleanup.
● You can delete files from the OneDrive app in Teams
● Items in the trash do not count toward your storage limit and will automatically be removed permanently after 30 days.
NOTE:
Files in the trash are automatically deleted after 30 days. Before the time window closes, you can restore your files. After the 30-day window, you may lose those files permanently.
