Finding MAC Addresses on USB to Ethernet Adapters

Overview

This article will explain how to find the MAC address of a USB to Ethernet adapter to register at resnet.tamu.edu. 

Finding the Mac Address on a Mac

  1. Disable WiFi 
  2. Connect the adapter to your Mac. Make sure that there is a good Ethernet connection
  3. Search and launch "Network Utility"
  4. On the "Info" tab, make sure the network interface is set to the adapter selected
  5. The Hardware Address is what we are looking for. Make note of it
  6. Go to resnet.tamu.edu to register the Hardware (MAC) address

Finding the Mac Address on Windows

  1. Disable WiFi
  2. Connect the adapter to your computer. Make sure that there is a good Ethernet connection
  3. Open command prompt
  4. Type in the following command: ipconfig /all
  5. Find the Ethernet adapter name on the list
  6. You should see a Hardware or MAC address listed. Make note of it
  7. Go to resnet.tamu.edu to register the Hardware (MAC) address
