Common Questions

How do I delete a private Slack channel?

To delete a private channel, you will need to invite a Slack admin to the channel. The Slack admin can then delete the channel.

Why can't I invite an external user to a channel? They are already in another channel.

If an email address is already in use in the TAMU Workspace, such as having been invited previously, that email address cannot be invited to the workspace again. The guest account will need to be deactivated by a workspace administrator and then re-invited. This process will cause the email to lose all existing access to channel(s), files, and messages in the TAMU Workspace.

How can I deactivate or reactivate a Slack account?

Slack accounts can only be deactivated or reactivated by a Slack administrator.

How can I change the email address I use to log into Slack?

For a Slack account's email address to be changed, the account must first be deactivated by a Slack Workspace owner or administrator. They can then update the address and reactivate the account.

Can I merge two separate Slack accounts I have in this workspace?

No. It is not possible to merge Slack accounts. If you have multiple Slack accounts, contact a Slack workspace administrator to deactivate one of the two accounts, and make sure that the remaining account is using your NetID@tamu.edu email address.

How do I contact a Slack administrator?

You can contact a Slack workspace administrator by asking in the #ask-a-slack-admin channel inside the TAMU Slack Workspace. You can also email helpdesk@tamu.edu, if you are not able to log into Slack.
