Residence Hall Wireless Device Compatibility

Overview

Certain wireless devices are not allowed and will not work with TAMU Wifi in the residence halls. See below for details on specific devices.

Note: Some wireless printers, routers and gaming consoles create their own wireless signal that interferes with our campus wireless network, causing outages and slow Internet speeds for everyone. If you are bringing one of these devices to campus, you must disable the wireless feature and use a wired connection, if possible.

Devices that can connect to the TAMU Network with a wired connection through a router.

Devices that have an Ethernet port can connect to the Texas A&M network through a router. This includes devices that use an Ethernet port adapter, such as the Nintendo Switch.

  • Smart TVs (if equipped with an Ethernet port)
  • TV Boxes (Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Roku, etc.)
  • Printers
  • Network-capable hard drives
  • Video game consoles (Playstation, XBox, Wii)

Devices with wireless capability that are not compatible with TAMU_Wifi and can not connect.

Devices that do not have the ability to connect to WPA2-Enterprise wireless networks and are unable to connect to a wired connection will be unable to connect to the Texas A&M network.

  • TV sticks (Amazon Fire Stick, Roku Stick, etc.)
  • TIVO, DVRs, etc.
  • eReaders that are not compatible with WPA2-Enterprise
  • Wi-Fi enabled speakers
  • Most hand-held video game devices
  • Most consumer electronics that don't have WPA2-Enterprise capability (appliances, scales, light bulbs and projectors that connect to Wi-Fi)

Devices that will connect to personal electronics (computer, phone, etc.) using Bluetooth

Bluetooth devices do not connect to TAMU_WiFi.

  • Health Trackers (Fitbit, Withings, etc.)
  • Bluetooth computer accessories (mouse, keyboard, etc.)
  • Printers with Bluetooth capability
  • Bluetooth speakers
