Overview
Technology Services is excited to announce the kickoff of the HSCID to NetID Migration Project. This knowledge base article contains steps to successfully migrate. For more information about the project itself, please visit our project site at HSCID to NetID Migration.
The migration process uses a custom tool to migrate all accounts found on your computer. This typically takes 5-10 minutes, but can take longer depending on the speed of your computer and the amount of data found under each account. You will need to save your work before beginning the migration, and your computer will reboot automatically during the migration. Please ensure that you have enough time to complete the migration before beginning. If you use multiple computers, each will need to be migrated individually.
Migration Instructions
-
- Log into your computer as you normally do, using your TAMU Health HSCID.
- If you are performing the migration remotely, please ensure that you are connected to the TAMHSC VPN throughout the migration: TAMU-Health Virtual Private Network (VPN).
- Open the Start Menu by clicking the Windows logo on your taskbar.
- Type in "Texas A&M Software Portal" to begin searching for the Software Portal. Once you see the Software Portal listed, open it.
- If the program is missing, or fails to load when you open it, please reach out to the TAMU Health Technology Care Team at 979-436-0250 or HealthTechCare@tamu.edu.
- Once the Software Portal loads, search for HSCID to NetID Migration Tool.
- Click the "install" button to run the HSCID to NetID Migration tool.
- You should now receive a prompt to walk you through the migration.
- Click Yes to move forward with the migration.
- Click No if you need to cancel the migration at this time. You can always resume at a later time.
- After clicking "Yes", a second window will come up to remind you to save your work and provide a QR code that you can use to bring these instructions up on your phone.
- Your computer will now run the Migration Tool in the background. Please refrain from working on your computer during this time.
- If any conditions are detected that would prevent the migration from succeeding, you'll receive the pop-up below. If you do, please try again later or contact the TAMU Health Technology Care Team for assistance at 979-436-0250 or HealthTechCare@tamu.edu.
- After the Migration Tool finishes running, your computer will reboot.
- After the reboot, log into your computer using your TAMU NetID. This is typically the part of your TAMU email address before the @tamu.edu, unless you've configured an email alias.
- If you are performing the migration remotely, you will need to connect to the VPN before login using your HSCID credentials, then use your NetID credentials to log into the computer. Instructions for connecting to the VPN from the sign-in screen can be found at TAMU-Health Virtual Private Network (VPN) - Using the Start Before Login module
- After logging in, you'll see a new screen that reads "Updating Apps", allow this process to complete.
- Once the apps finish updating, your account will finish loading. Your migration has completed, and you can begin working immediately.
- All accounts on your computer have been migrated. From now on, anyone using your computer will use their NetID username and password to access their account on your computer.
Known Issues
Your clipboard history may be cleared, including pinned items. If this happens, copy the items from where you'd last used them, and re-pin them within clipboard history.
Snipping Tool may not behave as expected. If this happens, open Settings and reset the app.
