Body

Overview

This document will list and define terms used by the Texas A&M Technology Services Project Management Office. This will include terms defined by the overall Project Management Body of Knowledge, terms defined by the Texas Administrative Code, and terms defined by Texas A&M Technology Services.

 

 

Major Information Resources Project (as defined by Texas Government Code 2054.003)

  1. Any information resources technology project identified in a state agency's biennial operating plan whose development costs exceed $1 million and that:
    1. requires one year or longer to reach operations status;
    2. involves more than one state agency; or
    3. substantially alters work methods of state agency personnel or the delivery of services to clients; and
  2. Any information resources technology project designated by the legislature in the General Appropriations Act as a major information resources project.

 

Texas Project Delivery Framework (as defined by Texas Administrative Code 216)

A statewide method for project selection, control, and evaluation based on alignment with business goals and objectives that assists and guides agencies to successfully plan and manage major information resources projects.
The Project Delivery Framework is designed for major, large-scale IT projects. Texas A&M Technology Services PMO templates are designed to help you capture all required information so your project stays on track and outcomes are measurable.

 

Project Sponsor

  • Ensures a project manager is assigned to the project.
  • Defines a high-level vision for the project.
  • Approves the project’s scope and objectives.
  • Identifies the project constraints and risk tolerance.

 

Project Manager

  • Coordinates the resources available to the project, including personnel, funding and technology.
  • Outlines a project schedule that includes deliverables.
  • Monitors assumptions, limitations, and risks.
  • Communicates progress regularly to stakeholders.
  • Secures agreement from the project sponsor that the project is done upon completion of deliverables.

 

Texas A&M Technology Services Terminology

Project Coordinator

  • Identified by an Associate Director.
  • Reports into that AD’s line of business (LOB).
  • Received project management training through the Texas A&M IT Project Coordinator Training program.
  • Responsible for managing project work.

 

Demand

  • The initiation of a project.
  • The project idea is defined.
    • Business Case
    • Business Need
    • Impact Analysis
    • Proposed Solution

 

Demand Process

  • Demand is opened in ServiceNow.
  • PMO screens the demand to make sure all proper information has been submitted.
  • Once all information is entered, the demand moves to the qualified status and the ELT reviews and prioritizes the project.
  • Once reviewed and prioritized the demand is moved through the approval and completed states then a project is created from the demand.

 

Project

  • Temporary endeavor (has a beginning and an end).
  • Produces a unique product or result.
  • Group activity.
  • More than 80 hours.
