Overview
The Texas A&M Technology Services Project Management Office uses a four-part methodology consisting of Initiating, Planning, Managing, and Closeout phases.
Initiating
In this stage, the methodology shall address:
- Initiate project request by entering a Demand
- Perform Sizing/Scoping using the Texas A&M Technology Services Project Complexity Chart
- Preparation of a project charter. Charters shall address all of the following topics at a high level:
- Name of the project sponsor and any executive sponsors
- Stakeholders
- Objectives
- What are we trying to achieve?
- Why is this important?
- What are we trying to achieve?

- Scope
- What are we going to do?
- What is explicitly not going to be included?
- What are we going to do?

- Rough Schedule and budget
- Risks
- Constraints
- Project is prioritized and created
- Schedule a Kick-off Meeting
Planning
In this stage, the methodology shall address:
- Finalize Project Charter:
- Project Purpose
- Project Timeline
- Deliverables:
- Project Value
- Estimated Work Effort
- Approval by Sponsor and Key Stakeholders
- Create Roles and Responsibilities (RACI) Documentation
- Identify Specific Resources for each Required Skill Set
- Identify Other Resource Requirements
- Schedule a recurring time and location for the project team meeting
- Create Project Work Schedule
