VOAL - File Transferring with Local Desktop

Body

Overview

This article provides instructions on how to transfer files between the Texas A&M University VOAL and your local desktop.

Uploading Documents to VOAL Web Client

At this time, downloading documents from the VOAL is available only through the VMware Horizon Client and not available on the web client.

  1. Log into voal.tamu.edu and launch the web client application. You can find instructions on how to access the VOAL web client here.
  2. On the Windows desktop screen inside of the VOAL, select the gray tab to the left of the screen.
  3. Click on the  button at the top of the opened tab. Note: The file-transferring service may take several minutes to initialize and will be grayed out initially if you recently logged into the VOAL.
  4. Drag and drop files from your local desktop into the window or click Choose Files and select files in your local desktop's file directory.

All transferred files will be uploaded into the "My Documents" folder inside the VOAL File Explorer.

Transferring Documents Using VMware Horizon Client

By default when using the VMware Horizon Client, your local desktop folder should be shared with the VOAL. This makes all documents on your local desktop accessible within the VOAL without a need for manually transferring documents. These instructions are for how to make a local file directory from your desktop accessible inside of the Horizon Client.

  1. Open the VMware Horizon Client and log into the VOAL. Instructions on downloading and setting up the VMware Horizon Client can be accessed here.
  2. After launching the VOAL, click on the ". . ." button at the top of the screen and click Settings.
  3. Go to Drive & Folder Sharing.
  4. Enable Share your local files C:\. This will allow you to access all local files on your desktop within the Horizon Client.
    1. If you would like to make another file directory accessible inside of the Client, click Add and select the folder you wish to be accessible.

From here, you should be able to freely access all shared documents inside the Horizon Client in File Explorer.
