Prohibited Technology Policy (updated on 20-Oct-24)

This is a reminder that Texas state law prohibits certain software applications and hardware products from being used on university devices and networks. Guidance on prohibited technologies may be found at the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) website.

 

Prohibited hardware cannot be used with TAMUQ VPN and prohibited software cannot be accessed over the TAMUQ network.

 

The following applications are currently included in the ban:

  • Alipay
  • ByteDance Ltd.
  • CamScanner
  • Kaspersky
  • QQ Wallet
  • SHAREit
  • Tencent Holdings Ltd.
  • TikTok
  • VMate
  • WeChat
  • WeChat Pay
  • WPS Office
  • Any subsidiary or affiliate of an entity listed above.

 

Prohibited Hardware/Equipment/Manufacturers

  • Dahua Technology Company
  • Huawei Technologies Company
  • Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Company
  • Hytera Communications Corporation
  • SZ DJI Technology Company
  • ZTE Corporation
  • Any subsidiary or affiliate of an entity listed above.

 

If you are using any of the technologies on this list on devices used for university business, please take corrective steps as soon as possible.
