Updating Mac OS Keychain after a TAMUQ ID password reset

Summary

Updating Mac OS 10 Keychain after a TAMUQ ID password reset

Body

Description

This document will show you how to troubleshoot lockout issues after updating your TAMUQ password on Macintosh computers. Applications that store passwords can cause accounts to lockout if changes are not applied manually. If the application does not prompt you to update your current password, you can remove an old TAMUQ password from the keychain in Mac OS

Procedure

1. Open the keychain by going to the finder (magnifying glass in the upper right corner) and type in "keychain."  Select "keychain access" from the options that appear below.

2. First, remove the wired and wireless network credentials.

Type "802" in the keychain search box. If you have both a wired and wireless password saved, two entries will come up called "Default" (wired) and "Staff" or "Student" (wireless).  Verify if they are for your TAMUQ account (Account: firstname.lastname). Note that eduroam will also come up if configured. It uses TAMU NetID and should not be deleted.

3. Highlight the keychain entries for your TAMUQ network account(s) and control + right-click them to select.

4. Select "Delete."  When asked: "Are you sure you want to delete the selected items?" select "Delete."

5. Remove the keychain password for your exchange account. In the keychain search box, type in Exchange.  Follow the same procedures above to remove the saved exchange passwords.

6. Finally, we will search for any other keychain entries for our TAMUQ password.

In the keychain search box, type in "qatar".  Look at every entry that comes up.  If it is for your TAMUQ account and contains a saved password, delete it as above.  Some examples of items that may have your saved TAMUQ password are mapped printers, mapped drives, and web pages.
