Home Drives (H:) to be Decommissioned by 22-Dec-2024

Summary

Home Drives (H:) to be Decommissioned by 22-Dec-2024

Body

Dear TAMUQ Community,

The Home Drive (H: ) is a legacy, on-site, file storage (a.k.a. “file share”) solution that allows employees and students to store personal, business-related files. It is being replaced by Texas A&M Google My Drive<https://it.tamu.edu/google/index.html> service. This is part of the Technology Services transition plan to enable workforce mobility, reduce overhead, and leverage Texas A&M service offerings. Google My Drive is a newer, cloud-based file storage and sharing solution that has been licensed by Technology Services for all employees and students of TAMUQ.

Some advantages of Google My Drive are:

* No need for VPN
* Dedicated app for Android and Apple mobile devices
* File Versioning: Recover an old version of your file
* Recycle Bin

On November 1st, all Home Drives will be set to read-only. Employees and students will be able to read and copy files from H: to a new location but writing new files will not be possible. On December 22nd, all Home Drive access will be removed.

To avoid data loss, all files on your H: drive that you wish to preserve must be copied to Google My Drive before December 22nd.
