General Employment and Salary Verification

Overview

Employment and/or Salary Verification is requested when you are applying for a loan, making a major purchase such as a home or automobile, or establishing a line of credit. A prospective employer may also request it if you are applying for a new job.

PAYROLL STAFF DO NOT PROVIDE VERBAL VERIFICATIONS

General Employment and Salary Verification information is pulled from Workday and is defined as:

• Current and/or prior earnings

• Current and/or prior position title(s)

There are three options available for an employee or third-party requester to obtain general employment and/or salary verification. If your requester asks your permission to obtain verification, give them the three methods below.

Option One - Email
Email written request or form to payroll@tamu.edu. Please allow one to two business days turnaround.

Option Two – Fax
Fax written request or form to 979.845.4134. Please allow one to two business days turnaround.

Option Three - Automated Verifications
For immediate verification, Texas A&M University and the Health Science Center also participate in an automated verification process called The Work Number.

The Work Number®provides verification service on over 200 million employees. It is widely known to mortgage lenders, banks, apartment complexes, government entities, and others who may need employment and/or salary verification, and it is easy for them to use.

The Work Number® is available 24/7, which means you won't have to provide a pay stub or rely on a member of your payroll team to provide assistance.  Please note that The Work Number® updates after the end of each calendar month, so results are not in real-time.

IMPORTANT: Payroll cannot provide department-level details such as contract terms, future earnings, list of job duties, reason for termination, etc.  Requesters will be directed to work with the individual employee to obtain any other needed details we cannot provide.

If an employee indicates they need verification for the PSLF program, ask them to use payroll@tamu.edu on the lender's site so the electronic form comes directly to Payroll.

Departmental Staff:  DO NOT FORWARD REQUESTS received from others.  Vendor links are often disabled or corrupted, preventing our office from responding.  Please ask your employee to work with their vendor and have them contact payroll directly.
