Overview

We provide a comprehensive overview of benefit and retirement options through employment with Texas A&M, Texas A&M Health, and Texas A&M Galveston.

Use this service request to ask questions about:

  • New Employee Booklets and Guides:  Learn about the various benefit plans available, including health, dental, vision, life, dependent life, flexible spending accounts, long-term disability, and accidental death and dismemberment plans.
  • Retirement Options:  Explore the retirement plans offered through TRS or ORP, including details on contribution rates, vesting periods, and plan benefits to help you make an informed decision about your future.
  • Deadlines:  Employees have 31 days from the date of hire to make a selection.
  • Dependent Verification:  Your insurance can cover eligible dependents such as spouses, common-law partners, and children up to the age of 26.
  • SGIP Eligibility Chart:  Find out when the employer contribution rate will start based upon your hire date.
  • Access an Insurance Card:  New hires starting coverage on their employer contribution eligibility date should expect to see insurance cards arrive via mail at the address on file in Workday near their insurance start date.  Employees who start coverage on their hire date should expect cards to arrive within 2-3 weeks of their benefit enrollment.

Eligibility

Staff, Faculty, and Graduate Assistant employees working 50% effort or more for 4.5 months or longer, are eligible to participate in Texas A&M University System sponsored, health, dental, vision, life, dependent life, flexible spending accounts, long term disability, and accidental death and dismemberment plans. Coverage may begin on hire date, the first of the month following hire, or the first of the month following 60 days of employment. All newly benefit eligible employees have a 60 day waiting period for employer contribution toward benefits begins.

Coverage Start Dates

Choose when you want your coverage to begin.  Each option has a different enrollment deadline:

  • Date of Hire / Initial Eligibility
    Enroll within 7 calendar days from your hire or eligibility date.
  • First of Month Following Hire
    Enroll on or before the last day of the month in which you are hired or become eligible.
  • Employer Contribution (SGIP) Date
    Coverage begins the first of the month following 60 days of employment. You must enroll within 31 calendar days from your hire or eligibility date.
