Overview
Campus members may encounter the following errors when signing into Cisco Jabber for TAMU Health:
- “Provide server information”
- “Cannot communicate with server”
This article details the steps to add a DNS search domain to resolve the above errors for Windows and macOS devices.
Adding a DNS Search Domain for Windows
- Click the Start Menu and type Control Panel.
- Click Control Panel.

- In Search bar at the top right corner, type network.
- In the search results under “Network and Sharing Center,” click View network connections.

- Right click the Network Connection you are currently using. Click Properties. If prompted, enter your credentials.
NOTE: If you are using a university-managed device, request temporary administrative privileges using Admin By Request before attempting this step.

- Double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) in the list.

- Click Advanced in the lower right corner.

- Click the DNS tab at the top and select Append these DNS suffixes (in order).

- If an entry for “tamhsc.edu” does not exist, click Add.
- Type tamhsc.edu and click Add.
NOTE: Ensure that the entry for tamhsc.edu is located at the top of the list by using the up or down arrows.
- Click OK to close the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box.
- Click OK to close the Internet Protocol Properties dialog box.
- Click Close to close the network connection’s Properties dialog box.
- You may now login to Cisco Jabber.
Adding a DNS Search Domain for macOS
- In the menu bar at the top left, click the Apple logo.
- Select System Settings.

- On the left, click Network.
- Click the network service you are currently using (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

- Click Details.

- On the left, click DNS.
- If there is not an entry for “tamhsc.edu” in the section titled “Search Domains,” click the + button at the bottom.

- In the field under Search Domains, type tamhsc.edu. Click OK.

- Close the System Settings window.
- You may now login to Cisco Jabber.
