Overview

The Cisco Secure Client (formerly AnyConnect) VPN Client by Cisco allows users to connect to the Texas A&M Virtual Private Network on an iPhone. A VPN is a network that uses primarily public telecommunication infrastructure, suchas the Internet, to provide remote offices or traveling users access to a central organizational network.

You need the following information to Install and Use the Secure Client VPN Client by Cisco on an iPhone.

  • Username: Your NetID
  • Password: Your NetID password
  • Server Address: connect.tamu.edu

Installation

To install the Secure Client VPN Client application for the iPhone, do the following:

  1. From the iTunes App Store on your iPhone, install the free Secure Client VPN from Cisco Systems, Inc.  [fig. 01].

  2. After you launch the app, you will now be presented with the Cisco Secure Client "Home Screen." Tap on Connections to set up a VPN configuration [fig. 02].

  3. On the "Add VPN Connection" screen, enter a description for this VPN connection, such as TAMU. In the "Server Address," enter connect.tamu.edu. Then click Advanced [fig. 03].

  4. You will now be presented with the "Advanced" screen. Leave the "Network Roaming" toggle in the ON position and then click Certificate [fig. 04]. Then select the Disabled option. Finally, tap on the Advanced tab to return.

  5. Click Save in the upper right corner of the screen to save the TAMU profile on the Secure Client "Home Screen". If a prompt pops up [fig .05] select Allow and input your password or Touch ID.

  6. You have successfully installed the Secure Client VPN Client iPhone application and TAMU connection. At the Secure Client "Home Screen," you will see your available TAMU connection under "Choose a connection..." [fig. 06].

Using the Secure Client VPN client iPhone application

To use the Secure Client VPN Client iPhone Application, do the following:

  1. At the Cisco Secure Client "Home Screen" (See fig. 09), move the "Secure Client VPN" toggle to the ON position.
     
  2. You will now be presented with the "Authentication" screen. In the "Username" and "Password" fields enter your NetID and your NetID password respectively. Click Connect in the upper right corner of the screen [fig. 7]. You will then need to authenticate via Duo Net ID Two-Factor Authentication, which should send a push notification to your device.   3. You are now connected to the VPN through the Secure Client iPhone app. While connected, the VPN logo will be displayed at the top of the screen on your mobile device [fig. 08]. 

    NOTE: To disconnect from VPN, simply slide the “Secure Client VPN” toggle to the OFF position.
