Macintosh Support Policy

Description

​If you are considering using a Macintosh (Mac) as your primary computing platform at Texas A&M University in Qatar (TAMUQ), you need to understand the support structure that is in place for the alternative OS. It will help you realize the limitations that naturally come for a Mac in a Windows environment, and help us eliminate some potential future confusion.

First, our business platform is Windows, and all software that we provide to our faculty and staff is only supported on the Windows platform. Also, our future business software will only be on the Windows platform. Furthermore, Technology Services provides each faculty and staff a Windows computer (desktop or laptop) that runs Windows, and all of our support guarantees extend only to these computers.

We recognize the need for some people to use Macintosh for their work. However, we make no guarantee to make our business applications work on any of these platforms. Given the complexity of just supporting one operating system, support for other systems is very limited to equipment purchased using the TAMUQ department or research funds.

On the Macintosh, you can expect us to assist in installing Mac OS X, and Microsoft Office, and providing basic networking access for your machine. Beyond that, Technology Services will not guarantee support for any software.

All of the above does not mean that we will leave Mac users high and dry. We will look at, and attempt to solve, any problems that you or other users have on these systems. However, we do not guarantee that solutions will be available for all problems.
