Background Check Process (First Advantage)

Overview

As part of Texas A&M University’s onboarding and compliance process, prospective employees are required to complete a background check.

Texas A&M partners with First Advantage (formerly Sterling) to conduct these screenings for new hires, volunteers, and current employees as needed.

Steps

  1. Watch for emails from @fadv.co, @fadv.com, or @sterlingcheck.com. These are legitimate communications from First Advantage. Adjust your email filters to ensure delivery.
  2. Complete the electronic disclosure and authorization form.
  3. Review your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including privacy and security information.
  4. Prepare the following information to avoid delays:
    • Personal details (for example: full legal name, Social Security number)
    • Address history for the past 7 years
  5. Submit all required information within 7 business days.
  6. Note: Delays in completing this process may result in a postponed start date.
