Overview
Employees who have not established Payment Elections (Direct Deposit) in Workday will receive paper payroll and expense checks by default.
Paper payroll checks are mailed to the employee's home mailing address listed in Workday. To ensure timely delivery, employees must maintain a valid and complete mailing address and are strongly encouraged to set up direct deposit.
Steps
Payroll Check Delivery
- Payroll checks are mailed by Payroll through USPS to the home mailing address listed in Workday.
- Checks are typically mailed one business day before payday.
- If payday falls on a Monday or immediately after a holiday, checks are mailed on payday.
- USPS delivery may take up to five business days from the mailing date and may occasionally take longer.
- If a paycheck is issued with a blank or invalid address, Payroll will contact both the employee and the employee's HR Professional to request an address update in Workday.
Expense Check Delivery
- Paper expense (reimbursement) checks, when applicable, are mailed by Financial Management Operations (FMO) after they are generated.
Address Requirements
- Enter a valid and complete home mailing address in Workday.
- Include apartment or unit numbers when applicable.
- Include a valid ZIP Code.
IMPORTANT:
- When entering your mailing address in Workday, do not include the apartment complex name.
- Paper checks cannot be delivered to on-campus dormitory addresses through USPS.

Payment Elections are a self-service function within Workday and are typically established during the onboarding process. If direct deposit was not set up during onboarding, employees can follow available Workday training resources to add or update payment elections.
