Military Leave

Overview
Texas A&M University supports employees who serve in state or national military units and provides employment protections, rights, and benefits to those employees who serve our country which includes military leave. Federal laws, state laws, and TAMU policies and procedures will apply to all leave for military service.
Use this service request to ask questions about:
  • Military Family LeaveUse FMLA leave for time off due to a family member's active duty or to care for an injured service member.
  • Differential Pay:  Employees on active military duty serving due to a National Emergency whose gross military pay is less than their gross state pay are entitled to differential pay through emergency leave to make up the difference.
  • How to Calculate Differential Pay:  Calculate the difference between military and state pay to determine emergency leave hours.
  • Medical and Mental Health Care for Certain Veterans Veterans can take leave for medical or mental health care without losing salary or leave time.  Qualifying documentation must be verified annually.
  • Summary of Military Benefits:  System employees, including graduate assistants and student employees, are entitled to 15 workdays of paid military leave per federal fiscal year, continued insurance coverage, and accrual of leave benefits during military leave.

Specific eligibility and approval will vary depending on individual circumstances and the type of military leave requested. Employees are encouraged to review the relevant policies and procedures or contact the appropriate support team for detailed information.
