Internships

Overview

A meaningful work experience that is related to your interest or major and includes a learning component can be highly beneficial. Typically, these experiences are short-term, lasting one or two semesters, and are either paid or compensated through course credit, scholarships, grants, or stipends. For-credit internships can be completed within your academic department by enrolling in an internship course. Some degree plans require an internship prior to graduation, while others offer internships as an elective. If you wish to request academic credit for your internship, you must contact your department directly, as not all departments offer academic credit for internships. Start by asking your academic advisor.

When pursuing a for-credit internship, please remember that it may come with additional responsibilities for the internship supervisor. Students should clearly communicate to the prospective employer what those responsibilities will be. Some of the many benefits of an internship for students include gaining valuable work experience, exploring a variety of career paths, networking with professionals in their field of study, and applying classroom learning to a professional environment. Additionally, students can continue to take classes on campus and do not need to relocate during the internship period.

Eligibility

This will give you plenty of time to research potential opportunities, network with professionals in your field, and perfect your application materials.
