Microsoft Teams - Upgrading to New Teams on Windows

Overview

Microsoft has made a new version of Microsoft Teams available. This new version includes many enhancements, new features, and quality of life improvements. A full list of changes and improvements can be found on Microsoft's "What's new in Microsoft Teams" page.

Installation

  1. Click the toggle in the upper left corner of your Teams window.


     
  2. Click Get it now button in the bottom right of the pop-up window. Clicking the See the full list link in the bottom left of the pop-up window will open a web page detailing the changes in the new version of Teams.



    Note: This will force a restart of Teams.
  3. Click Continue in the Install Microsoft Teams (work or school) installation window.
  4. Click Close once the installation is complete. The new Teams will launch.
  5. Click your tamu.edu account.
  6. Click OK to allow Teams to use your microphone, if you use Teams for calls or video meetings.

Adjusting layout

  1. Click the three dots next to your user icon in the top right corner of Teams.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Appearance and accessibility.
  4. Click List under Layout to display your teams and chats as a list rather than as a grid of icons.
  5. Click on any icon on the left (Teams, Chat, etc.) to exit the settings menu.

Setting notification preferences

General notifications settings

  1. Click the three dots next to your user icon in the top right corner of Teams.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Notifications and activity.


     
  4. Configure application-wide notifications including:
    • Mac notifications and Focus preferences
    • Notification sounds, including incoming calls, requests to join, and meeting start notifications
    • Show messages and content previews in notifications
    • Chat notifications
    • @Mentions
    • Channel and team @mentions
    • Tag mentions
    • Replies to your posts and replies
    • Likes and reactions
    • Meeting start and meeting chat notifications
  5. Click on any icon on the left (Teams, Chat, etc.) to exit the settings menu.

Per-channel notifications

  1. Click the three dots to the right of a channel name.
  2. Click Channel notifications.
  3. Select your notification preferences (Banner and feed, only show in feed, or off) to the right of both All new posts and Channel mentions.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each team or channel.
