Duo - Trouble Authenticating or Connecting

Overview

The topics below detail issues wherein DUO does not authenticate or connect properly. This can be on various websites, applications, or devices. Most resolutions deal with either enrolling a new device (or re-enrolling), clearing the cache/cookies, as we as verifying the correct device is being monitored for the DUO authentication

Duo Not Authenticating On Certain Sites

There are several TAMU "sub accounts" under the overall TAMU Duo account at a system level. These include TAMU main campus, TAMUS, TAMU health, etc. An authentication device can only be tied to one sub-account under the overall account, meaning a YubiKey used to authenticate with NetID to TAMU main campus cannot also be used to authenticate with UIN for TAMUS.

Duo Mobile App

The Duo Mobile App allows multiple accounts to be enrolled in it. Each account appears separately within the mobile app. Each listing acts as a separate "authentication device" which is why the mobile app can accept push notifications or generate pass codes for multiple sub-accounts such as main campus or TAMUS.

Duo tokens (YubiKey, hardware token)

YubiKeys and Duo hardware tokens can only be associated with one sub-account at a time. A YubiKey used to authenticate to the TAMU main campus Duo cannot also be used to authenticate to the TAMUS Duo. A separate YubiKey or hardware token would need to be obtained and tied to the TAMUS Duo.
