InfoBlox - Requesting a Host or Subdomain

Overview

With the implementation of Infoblox, a new process for requesting a host or subdomain has been implemented. This process was developed by Texas A&M Technology Services along with Texas A&M University Marketing and Communications to protect the brand and reputation of the university. The forms for requesting a new host or subdomain are only available to individuals with access to Infoblox. If you need access to Infoblox, contact your department IT group.

NOTE: Be aware that requests for new host names under the TAMU.EDU root domain may take approximately two weeks to be approved due to the new process.

How to request a host under the TAMU.EDU root domain

Requests to attach a host directly to the tamu.edu root domain require approval of the CIO and VP of Marketing and Communication.

Example: president.tamu.edu. President is a hostname.

  1. Complete the host request form located at https://u.tamu.edu/tamu_edu.
  2. The requester will receive notification within two business days once the request is received by Texas A&M Technology Services Networking. At that time, it will be passed to the Texas A&M University CIO for review.
  3. The Office of the CIO will coordinate with the Vice President of Communications to review the request.
  4. The Office of the CIO will notify Texas A&M Technology Services Networking of the decision.
  5. If the request has been approved, Texas A&M Technology Services Networking will add the host.
  6. The requesting individual will be notified of the host's addition or its denial.

NOTE: Be aware that requests for new host names under the TAMU.EDU root domain may take approximately two weeks to be approved due to the new process.

How to request a new subdomain

Subdomains are not hosts, but do contain hosts. Departments can request a subdomain to allow them to create hosts within it. This allows departments to manage resources within their subdomain (department) with appropriate granularity and control. Requests for a subdomain are approved by the department head or a higher level IT professional.

Example: mail.ecen.tamu.edu. Mail is a hostname. Ecen is a subdomain.

  1. Complete the subdomain request form on https://itselfservice.tamu.edu.
  2. If you are unsure of your Infoblox group name, enter "Unknown."
  3. Make sure the proper approver is defined. The approver should be your department head or higher level IT professional.
