Infoblox load times:
The load times of the Infoblox system are inherent with the system itself and a result of the amount of data within the system. Texas A&M Technology Services is unable to affect the system load times.
Modifying host information (A Record, PTR, MX):
In Infoblox, each record type is recorded and modified separately and does not exist within a shared record group. In order to have all record types update simultaneously, please use the scheduled change feature and schedule all records to update at the same time.
A record creation:
It is up to the customer to verify that A Records are created correctly. Infoblox does not provide a mechanism to warn users if they point an A Record to an allocated IP address.
PTR record creation:
Texas A&M Technology Services has a daily scheduled job that updates PTR records after an A Record has been changed. If PTR records need to be updated more quickly, they may be created or modified manually.
MX record creation:
MX records should only be created for hosts that will be processing email information. Because the majority of hosts do not provide this functionality, default creation of an MX record is unnecessary.
Request response times:
Requests have a two business day response time. Requests marked as urgent can be moved ahead of other requests. Requests for new subdomains or hosts on the .tamu.edu root domain require a seperate approval process which may prolong fulfillment.
Approval process:
Changes to existing hosts do not require approval. Request for new subdomains require the approval of a top level IT Manager. Requests for new hosts on the .tamu.edu root domain also require approval by the CIO and the Division of Marketing and Communication.
.tamu.edu root domain changes:
Access to hosts in the .tamu.edu root domain is read only. To change or delete an existing host, please complete and submit the Infoblox TAMU.EDU Host Request form.
Subdomain changes:
Changes to hosts below subdomains are under your control, can be made by you directly and do not require approval. Be aware that the subdomain itself (net.tamu.edu) is considered part of the .tamu.edu root domain and any change will need to be requested.
Timing of changes in Infoblox:
Changes made in Infoblox are instantaneous, however a delay between those changes being visible in production is expected. This is a result of client caching which is controlled by the cache time or Time To Live (TTL) value of a record. The default TTL for records in Infoblox is set to one hour. If a faster convergence time is desired, reduce the TTL for the entry to a lower time limit (such as 1 minute), wait an hour or until the original TTL expires, and then make the necessary change. Once the change has been made, return the TTL to its default one hour timeframe. All of these changes can be scheduled within Infoblox.
Last-seen times:
Due to various security measures implemented on the campus network and on systems connected to the network, discovery process in Infoblox is unable to obtain last-seen data for many hosts. Texas A&M Technology Services is working to gather this data separately and merge it with host data within Infoblox on an hourly basis.
MAC address field in records:
Due to various security measures implemented on the campus network and on systems connected to the network, discovery process in Infoblox is unable to obtain the MAC address for many hosts. Texas A&M Technology Services is working to gather this data separately and merge it with host data within Infoblox on an hourly basis.
Name server groups:
The name server group functionality in Infoblox used exclusively by Infoblox administrators for zone delegation. This functionality is not available to end users.
