Respondus Lockdown Browser - Downloading and Installing for Students

Overview

Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Canvas. This article walks students through the download, installation, and setting up of the Respondus LockDown Browser program.

Download Respondus

  1. Download Respondus LockDown Browser from https://download.respondus.com/lockdown/download.php?id=961615468 if your course instructor has not given you the download link.
  2. Click the Install Now button.

Install Respondus

  1. Locate the downloaded file. For both Windows and macOS, the file name will have [VERSION] replaced with the current version of the software. In our previous screenshot, the version downloaded was 2.0.8.04, so the full file name would be LockDownBrowser-2-0-8-04.exe. The specific file name will change as the current version of the software changes.
    1. Windows: Look in your downloads folder for the file LockDownBrowser-[VERSION].exe file on your computer and open it.
    2. macOS:
      1. Look in your downloads folder for the file InstallLDBPackage64c-[VERSION].zip and double-click it.
      2. Double-click the new file whose name starts with "Install Respondus Lockdown Browser (x64c)" to begin installation.
  2. Choose Setup Language, then click Next.

  3. Wait for the Wizard to complete setup.
  4. Accept the License Agreement, then click Next.

  5. Let the InstallShield Wizard complete the installation.
  6. When complete, select Finish.

    Click Finish
     

Set Up Respondus

  1. Locate the LockDown Browser icon on your desktop. Double click LockDown Browser to open the program.

  2. Select Canvas as your e-Learning System.
  3. Login to Canvas and navigate to your exam.
  4. You're ready to begin taking your exam!
