Lateral Transfers

Overview
A lateral transfer occurs when an employee is moving from one position to another position which are assigned the same pay grade.  This process helps in utilizing the skills of employees in different roles without changing their pay grade.

Eligibility

Eligibility and approval for lateral transfers will depend on the specific circumstances and type of position. The following criteria must be met:

  • The employee must have education, experience, and other qualifications that meet or exceed the minimum required qualifications as documented on the position description.
  • The employee must have been employed in their present position for at least three months. An exception to the three-month requirement may be approved by the Vice President for Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness or designee.
  • The employee must have a satisfactory record of performance. If the employee has not been in the role long enough to have a TAMU performance evaluation, a paper evaluation should be completed.

  • Counteroffers:  Used when an employee possesses unique knowledge, skills, and abilities that cannot easily be replaced.
  • Degree Verification:  The Degree/Licensure Verification Release Form is required for any position that requires a degree or for which the candidate has claimed a degree/professional license.
  • Internal Promotion Transfer Comment Template:  Use to create a record of compliance with eligibility requirements when promoting or transferring an employee internally.
  • Paper Evaluation:  Required if the employee has not been in the role long enough to have a TAMU performance evaluation.
  • University Approved Titles:  Provides a list of approved job titles, title codes, salary pay grades, FLSA exemption status, and job families.
  • Workday Position Description Template:  Used to create or update a position description.  This may be completed by the manager or HR Hub professional.
