Requesting and Deleting a Shared NetID Account

Overview

Shared NetID accounts are NetIDs that can be shared by multiple users or used with applications, servers, printers or other devices. Shared NetID accounts are often used to allow IT resources, either machines or services, to connect to the Texas A&M Network. Please treat a Shared NetID with the same security precautions you take with your own NetID.

Shared NetIDs do not have the same privileges as a personal NetID account, and cannot access Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or a Texas A&M email account by default.

If your account requires an email account, you should use a Shared Forwarding Email Address.

Common uses of a Shared NetID Account

You need a shared NetID account if:

  • You need to connect a shared device to the TAMU WiFi network. Devices like printers connect to the campus Wi-Fi network with a Shared NetID.
  • You need to host a large Zoom meeting for your department. You can use a Shared NetID account instead of your own account to schedule Zoom meetings, e.g. a conference room or course can be the host of a Zoom meeting. Request a Zoom license for your shared NetID by emailing Zoom Requests (zoom-requests@tamu.edu). There may be an additional license cost to host large Zoom meetings.
  • You need to sign documents online using Adobe Sign. If you used to sign documents with DocuSign using a shared mailbox, you will need a Shared NetID account to use Adobe Sign. The Adobe Sign support team (adobe@tamu.edu) can help you request a Shared NetID account.

You Do NOT need a shared NetID account to share files or have a shared email account within your department, unit, or group.

Some options for file sharing and collaboration include:

Requesting a Shared NetID Account

To request a Shared NetID Account, complete a Texas A&M Shared NetID Request form. On the form, you can attach any supporting documentation that may be needed. Once submitted, the request will be forwarded to our identity security office for fulfillment.

Deleting a Shared NetID Account

To delete a Shared NetID account, send an email to identity@tamu.edu requesting that the account be deleted.
