Microsoft Teams at TAMU

Overview

Microsoft Teams is a communication tool that provides chat, video, and file storage services.

Who has access to Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is available to all full time employees and students for system parts 02 (Texas A&M College Station), 09 (TEEX), 10 (Texas A&M Galveston), 23 (Texas A&M Health), and 28 (TEES).

How do I access Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams can be accessed online at https://teams.microsoft.com/. However, the best Teams experience is by using the Microsoft Teams desktop client which is available at https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads.

How do I sign in to Microsoft Teams?

  1. At the Microsoft Sign In screen, enter your NetID@tamu.edu email address and click Next.
  2. Sign into CAS with your NetID and your NetID password.

Who can create a Team?

Anyone at Texas A&M University can create a Team.

How many people can be a member of a Team?

A Team can have up to 10,000 members; a meeting in Teams can have up to 300 people.

Can a Team include individuals from outside the university, such as collaborators at other universities, government labs, etc.? Will they need to have a NetID in order to access Teams?

Guest access is available for Microsoft Teams. Individuals from outside of Texas A&M University can be added to a team by inviting them to the team as a guest. Can I use Teams to collaborate one-on-one with individuals outside the university?

Yes! To message an external user: 

  1. Start a new chat.
  2. Enter the external person’s email address.
  3. Click Search <Email Address> Externally.

Click search email address externally to ad dan external user to the chat.

A note about email and calendar integration with Microsoft Teams

A recent update was implemented to support the calendar feature, if a user does not see the calendar applet, they need to check for updates by clicking on their profile icon, then clicking "check for updates". Uninstalling and reinstalling Teams will also populate the calendar applet. An exchange inbox is required for this feature to be functional.
