How to change your NetID or email address

Overview

It is important to note that when a NetID is changed, it changes the @tamu.edu email address as well as the login credentials for various websites and may affect user profiles for certain services. After changing your NetID, some websites may be unavailable for 24 hours to allow for the NetID change to take effect.

If you are interested in simply changing your email address, you may simply set up an email alias. When emails are sent to an alias, they are forwarded to the existing mailbox. In this way, you continue to log in to all services using your existing NetID and experience the same benefits of changing your "email address". An email alias can be set up by following steps 1-4 below.

If you experience trouble that may be a result of changing your NetID, please contact Help Desk Central at 979.845.8300 and be sure to let the technician know that you recently changed your NetID.
