Setting Up Duo Mobile (Two-Factor Authentication) for Your HSC Account

We use Duo Mobile for two-factor authentication for our HSC accounts. You may already have Duo Mobile installed if you have it setup for your NetID account. After completing the following steps, you may see two or more accounts listed in the Duo Mobile app.

  1. Open a new tab in your web browser, and go to vpn.tamhsc.edu
  2. Leave the group set as HSC_All_Traffic
  3. Login with the credentials you just setup (HSC account)
  4. You should see a prompt from Duo Mobile to start setup
    1. If you do not see this prompt, and instead see options for Push, Call, or Passcode, please call the Health Technology Care Team at 979.436.0250
  5. Click Start Setup and select the device type. Click Continue
  6. Enter your phone number and click Continue. If "Tablet" was selected, this step will not show up.
  7. Choose the operating system and click Continue
  8. If a tablet or smart phone is being used, download the Duo Mobile app from the app store on your phone. Then click I Have Duo Mobile Installed
  9. Open the Duo Mobile app on your phone and click Setup New Account or Add Account.
  10. Scan the QR code and complete account setup in the Duo Mobile app.
  11. On your computer, click Continue after you see a green check mark on the QR code.
  12. You may see a drop-down menu with options for what Duo should do when you log in. It is recommended that you leave it as the default option (Ask me to choose an authentication method) to avoid future problems with your account. Click Continue to Login.
  13. Select an authentication option to test that everything is setup correctly (Send me a push, Call me, or Passcode).
  14. Once you see a download option for Cisco Secure Client (formerly AnyConnect), you can close your browser. You do not need to download Cisco Secure Client.

You can now use your HSC account to access the tamhsc WiFi network and the computers on the HSC campuses. We have additional information on HSCIDs, Duo, WiFi, and many other topics in our knowledgebase that can be accessed from help.tamu.edu under “Search Help Documentation.”

NOTE: The password for your HSC account will expire in 6 months. At that time, you can visit the same website (change.tamhsc.edu) and choose Forgot My Password to update the password.
