TAMU_WiFi - Connection Error Troubleshooting

Overview

When connecting to the Texas A&M Wi-Fi, your device may encounter a problem that prevents it from successfully connecting. This article contains common troubleshooting steps to fix connection errors.

Password Flush

This step re-propagates your NetID password across TAMU servers, which occasionally is required if TAMU resources will not accept your credentials. This article in our Knowledge Base contains the steps on how to do this: https://servicenow.tamu.edu/tamucs?id=tamucs_kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0014230

Password Reset

If, after a password flush, the network still refuses to connect, you may need to reset your NetID password altogether. This article in our Knowledge Base contains the steps on how to do this: https://servicenow.tamu.edu/tamucs?id=tamucs_kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0010723

Forget the Network

This step refreshes the network on your device. This is especially useful if you have recently changed your password, as it resets the device's stored credentials.

Windows PC

  1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  2. Right-click on the network you wish to forget.
  3. Select "Forget."

MacOS

  1. Click on the Apple menu, then "System Settings."
  2. Click on Wi-Fi on the sidebar.
  3. Next to the network you want to forget, click "Details."
  4. Click "Forget This Network," then click "Remove" to confirm the choice.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Go to the Settings app, then choose "Wi-Fi."
  2. Tap the "i" button next to the network you want to forget.
  3. Tap "Forget this Network," then tap "Remove" to confirm the choice.

Android

  1. Go to the Settings app.
  2. Tap "Network & internet," then "Internet," then "Wi-Fi."
  3. Next to the network you want to forget, tap "Wi-Fi settings," then "Disconnect."

Disable Antivirus

Occasionally, your device's antivirus may block the network from connecting to your device. To see whether this is the case, you can temporarily disable your antivirus and connect to the network while it is off.

NOTE: Remember to re-enable the antivirus after testing.

Check Date and Time

If your device's date and time settings are out of sync with the current date and time, then the Wi-Fi may have difficulty authenticating and connecting.

Windows PC

  1. Open the Settings panel.
  2. Select "Time & language" > "Date & time."
  3. Ensure that "Set time automatically" is toggled on.
  4. Click "Sync now" to synchronize your computer's date and time to current.

MacOS

  1. Select the Apple menu > "System Settings."
  2. Choose "General" from the sidebar, then "Date & Time."
  3. Ensure that "Set time zone automatically using your current location" is turned on. NOTE: You may need to turn it off and on to make sure it syncs correctly.

iPhone

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap "General," then "Date & Time."
  3. Make sure that "Set automatically" is toggled on.

Android

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap "Date & Time."
  3. Make sure that "Automatic" is toggled on.
