Overview
Storage space is allocated to students, faculty, and staff on various systems. The amount of storage you receive will depend on the system you are using.
NOTE: While every effort is taken to maintain recent and reliable backups of most storage areas, it is prudent to keep at least one backup copy of mission-critical data for yourself. Texas A&M's backups are for disaster recovery purposes only and generally cannot be used to retrieve information on a file-by-file basis.
Texas A&M Gmail
The storage space allocated to Texas A&M Google Apps customers can be used to store Texas A&M Gmail messages, attachments, and files that you store in Google Drive. This data can be accessed through the web, via an email client, or through Google Drive app; it cannot be accessed as a network drive or through the FTP protocol.
New My Drive accounts: Quotas are not expandable.
- Undergraduate students and staff receive 25 GB of storage.
- Graduate students and faculty receive 100 GB of storage.
Existing My Drive accounts:
- Undergraduate students and staff have a 25 GB quota. If the usage was higher when quotas were set, they were given a quota based on their usage plus a buffer to accommodate additional growth.
- Graduate students and faculty have a 100 GB quota. If the usage was higher when quotas were set, they were given a quota based on their usage plus a buffer to accommodate additional growth.
Texas A&M Microsoft 365
New OneDrive accounts: Quotas are not expandable.
- Undergraduate and graduate students will receive a storage quota of 25 GB.
- Current and retired staff will receive a storage quota of 50 GB.
- Current, retired and emeritus faculty will receive a storage quota of 100 GB.
- Former student quotas will drop to 5 GB once they are no longer enrolled at the university.
Existing OneDrive accounts:
- Undergraduate and graduate students will receive a storage quota of 25 GB. If their current use is higher, they will be given a quota based on their current use with a significant buffer to accommodate additional growth.
- Current and retired staff will receive a storage quota of 50 GB. If their current use is higher, they will be given a quota based on their current use with a significant buffer to accommodate additional growth.
- Current, retired and emeritus faculty will receive a storage quota of 100 GB. If their current use is higher, they will be given a quota based on their current use with a significant buffer to accommodate additional growth.
- Former student quotas will drop to 5 GB once they are no longer enrolled at the university. If they are over quota, their data is still accessible, it will just become "read only" and they cannot make changes to files. This will encourage them to find an alternate storage solution as their account will eventually be deleted and we do not want them to lose important files.
Labs
Labs home drive
The labs Home (or H:) drive gives every customer with an account 2 GB of personal storage space. This space can be used to store any personal or academic files, or files you want to make available on the web through the people.tamu.edu web space system. See the documentation titled Setting Up Your Personal Webspace for more information. In the labs, the drive is mapped for you as the “H:” drive under “My Computer”.
