What is Twingate?
Twingate is being pilot tested by a small group of users in Technology Services, and permanent implementation depends on further analysis and available funding. Permanent systems or processes should not be built around this product.
Twingate is a game changing product that makes it possible for enterprises to replace old VPN technologies completely while providing seamless User Experience and better protection against security threats. In short, Twingate will allow you to access company resources from anywhere just as if you were in an office in a secure way.
The Twingate Client
The Twingate Client is what you will use to authenticate and gain access to internal company resources.
The Client should already be installed on your Windows computer (as per company policy) and be visible in the list of Applications installed and in the bottom taskbar of your screen:
(NOTE: If not present on your device, head over here to download the right client for your own device. For Twingate to work as expected, please ensure you’re running an OS that is currently supported by the provider.)
Opening the Twingate Client
Once you open the Twingate Client, you may be asked to "Enter a network name”.
If the name is not pre-populated for you, please use the following name and press “Join Network”:
Once your Twingate Client knows what Network Name to connect to, a tab will automatically open and ask you to authenticate with your company’s default Identity Provider (TAMU, etc.):
Go ahead and authenticate with your credentials.
You should now be connected to Twingate and have access to internal company resources.
A good way to double check is to simply click on the Twingate icon in the taskbar.
The Twingate icon itself should appear in bright white (as opposed to a muted shade):
Re-Authenticating with the Twingate Client
- When the Twingate Client shows a red dot in the task bar (see below), it simply means that you are trying to access a Resource and need to re-authenticate before you can connect to that Resource.
- Simply click on the Twingate icon and you will be able to see what resources need to be re authenticated.
- Click on any resources under Pending Authentication to authenticate.
- Once authenticated, the window will close.
Disconnecting the Twingate Client
If you want to disconnect the Twingate Client for some reason, simply click on the Twingate icon in the taskbar and click “Log Out & Disconnect”.
