Software - SOLIDWORKS Installation

Overview

This article provides instructions on the purchasing and installation process of SOLIDWORKS for Windows devices.

Purchasing SOLIDWORKS

If you have already purchased SOLIDWORKS previously or are unable to purchase SOLIDWORKS through software.tamu.edu, please contact Help Desk Central: https://it.tamu.edu/help/

  1. Go to software.tamu.edu and click on the logo of your institution to log in.
  2. Log in with the respective credentials you would use for your institution's login. 
    1. If you are using the TAMU NetID login, log in with your NetID and NetID password
  3. Authenticate with your preferred authenticate method.
    1. If you cannot authenticate, you will need to contact Help Desk Central for bypass codes. Please call (979) 845-8300 or visit the Computing Services Complex (CSC), room CS00
    2. If neither of the above options work for you, you can start a chat at help.tamu.edu or email helpdesk@tamu.edu and request a Zoom meeting. Bypass codes cannot be given out over email or chat.
  4. Scroll down to SOLIDWORKS Student Premium 20XX-20XX and click Details.
  5. Select SOLIDWORKS Student Premium 20XX-20XX. This item will be immediately added to your cart.
  6. Click on the Cart Icon in the top-right-hand corner of the page.
  7. Click Check Out >>
  8. Enter your phone number and email address.
  9. Click Next >>
  10. Your order for SOLIDWORKS has been submitted and may take up to an hour to be sent to your inbox.

Installing SOLIDWORKS

Before proceeding with the installation of SOLIDWORKS, make sure that all previous instances have been uninstalled from the device.

  1. Go to www.solidworks.com/sek
  2. Type all relevant information into the form provided.
  3. Under Product Information select Yes to I already have a Serial Number that starts with 9020
  4. Select the desired version of SOLIDWORKS.
    1. NOTE: Not just any version of SOLIDWORKS can be installed. The version available for installation is listed in the original purchase order email from the Software Center which includes the Serial number for SOLIDWORKS.
  5. Click Request Download
  6. Click Accept and Continue
  7. Click Download
  8. After the SolidWorkSetup Installer has finished installing, open the program.
    1. It may ask you first to unzip the files from a folder. If so, select Unzip to open the installer.
  9. On the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager, select Install on this computer, then click Next
  10. Under the 3D Design tab for SOLIDWORKS, enter the Serial Number as provided in the original purchase order email provided by the TAMU Software Center, then click Next.
  11. Under the Products tab, click on Change
  12. Find SOLIDWORKS Electrical in the product selection list and deselect it from installation.
    1. NOTE: SOLIDWORKS Electrical can cause complications with reinstallation for future versions of SOLIDWORKS if not deselected.
  13. Click on Back to Summary, check the box to accept the terms of the SOLIDWORKS License Agreement, and click Download and Install
