Gateway - Forwarding your NetID@tamu.edu Email Address

Overview

Your NetID@tamu.edu address is a forwarding address that will route email sent to it to either your Texas A&M Gmail account (default for students) or your Texas A&M Exchange account (default for faculty and staff). There may be occasions when you want to change the behavior of your NetID@tamu.edu email forwarding. There may also be instances where you will need to forward all or some of the email sent to either your Texas A&M Gmail or Texas A&M Exchange email accounts to the other account (for example, if you are a student worker wishing to keep school- and work-related emails separated by email account).

NOTE: If you choose a forwarding setting OTHER than Sent to and Stored in my Texas A&M Gmail Mailbox, some emails may not forward correctly. Please read the directions below (particularly step 7) carefully to avoid missing emails.

Setting up Forwarding for your Published Email Address

  1. Go to gateway.tamu.edu.

  2. Log in with your NetID and password

  3. Click on Email Settings.

  4. Scroll down to Forwarding Settings. Click on Edit, located on the right-hand side of the screen.

  5. Select the option that works best for you. Most campus members select Sent to and stored in my Texas A&M Gmail mailbox. You can also have the emails forwarded to your Exchange mailbox (if you have one).

NOTE: We highly recommend NOT selecting Returned to Sender. Doing this will break multiple cloud services.

  6. Click Save. Now, when email is sent to you at YourNetID@tamu.edu, it will be forwarded to the address you entered.

NOTE: This setting will remain as long as your NetID account is active. Students lose their NetIDs and their TAMU mailboxes 2 years after becoming a former student.

  7. If you chose any forwarding rule OTHER than Sent to and stored in my Texas A&M Gmail mailbox, you will need to create an additional forwarding rule within Texas A&M Gmail to avoid missing important emails.

If an email is sent to your_NetID@email.tamu.edu, the email will show up in you Texas A&M Gmail mailbox regardless of what setting you chose in the steps above. Emails are sometimes not seen because of this.

Click here for directions on setting up the forwarding rule for emails sent to YourNetID@email.tamu.edu to ensure you see all emails sent to you.
