Overview
Private Browsing mode, or incognito mode, is a type of web browsing window which does not load saved cookies or cached data, and does not store and save cookies or cached data. This makes Private Browsing and Incognito mode very useful in troubleshooting issues web browser issues. If you are able to access a website while in an Incognito window, then clearing your browser's cache and cookies will most likely solve your issue.
Browser specific instructions
Chrome
- Press Ctrl-Shift-N (Windows) or Command-Shift-N (macOS) to open a new Incognito Window.
- Or, click the three vertical dots in the upper right to open the Chrome menu and select New Incognito Window.
- Or, right-click a link and select Open Link in New Incognito Window from the menu.
Edge
- Press Ctrl-Shift-N (Windows) or Command-Shift-N (macOS) to open a new InPrivate Window.
- Or, click the three horizontal dots in the upper right to open the Edge menu and select New InPrivate Window.
- Or, right-click a link and select Open Link in New InPrivate Window from the menu.
Firefox
- Press Ctrl-Shift-P (Windows) or Command-Shift-P (macOS) to open a new Private Window.
- Or, click the three horizontal lines in the upper right to open the Firefox menu and select New private window.
- Or, right-click a link and select Open Link in New Private Window from the menu.
Safari
- Press Command-Shift-N (macOS) to open a new Private Window.
- Or, click File in the menu and select New Private Window.
- Or, right-click a link and select Open Link in New Private Window from the menu.
Opera
- Press Ctrl-Shift-N (Windows) or Command-Shift-N (macOS) to open a new Private Window.
- Or, click File in the menu and select New Private Window.
- Or, right-click a link and select Open Link in New Private Window from the menu.
