Unsubscribing from a Listserv List

Overview

The Listserv system hosted at listserv.tamu.edu allows customers to create and subscribe to mailing lists which cover a variety of topics. Subscribing to these lists is covered in our document Subscribing to a Listserv List. If you no longer need or wish to be on a list, you can remove yourself from these lists by unsubscribing, a process covered in this document.

Unsubscribing via Email

To unsubscribe from a listserv list via email, you will need to send an email command from your addresses to listserv about each of the lists you want to unsubscribe from. This email command should be sent to listserv@listserv.tamu.edu. Leave the subject line blank. In the body of the message, put the following:

               UNSUBSCRIBE LISTNAME

NOTE: Make sure to replace "LISTNAME" with the name of the list you wish to unsubscribe from. Also make sure you are sending that command from the email address that is subscribed to LISTNAME. If you are unsure which email address is subscribed to which list, check your email and look at the listserv messages sent to it. The name of the list will be the first part of the listserv's email address, for example, LISTNAME@listserv.tamu.edu.

If you have sent the command from the subscribed email address, you will then be unsubscribed from the list.

Unsubscribing via Webpage

You can also unsubscribe from listserv lists by going to http://listserv.tamu.edu and clicking the Manage my lists button. Here, you will be asked to log in using your email address and your listserv password for that address. If you have not set a listserv password for that address, you can click the link in the paragraph above the login boxes that says get a new listserv password.

This will take you to a page where you can set a password for your email address. Enter the email address you wish to set the password for, and then enter the desired password twice. Once you click submit, you will receive a confirmation message at your email address. In the confirmation message will be a link that you need to click on to confirm your password change. You can then go back to the Manage my lists screen and log in using your email address and the password you just set.

Once logged into http://listserv.tamu.edu, you will see two links in the upper left corner of your screen, "Subscriber's Corner" and "Email Lists." If you click on Subscriber's Corner, you will see a list of all the email lists that your email address is subscribed to. To remove yourself from one or more of these lists, put a check in the box to the left of the name of the list you wish to leave, and choose Unsubscribe from the choice pulldown below the list of names.

Once you click the Submit button, you will be given a message stating that you have been removed from the list. Repeat this process for each of your email addresses.
