Import Gmail Contacts into Outlook

Overview

If you need to import contacts from Gmail into Exchange, you can do so by exporting the contacts from Gmail and importing them into Exchange using Outlook.

Instructions

Export your Gmail contacts

  1. Click on Contacts in the Google Apps selection – the nine dots next to your account icon in the upper right of the window.
  2. Click on Export in the left hand menu.
  3. Choose the contact group you wish to export.
  4. If you will be importing your contacts into Outlook for Windows:
    1. Select Outlook CSV in the Export as section.
    2. Click Export.
    3. Choose to Save the file.
    4. Click OK.
  5. If you will be importing your contacts into Outlook for macOS:
    1. Select vCard (for iOS Contacts).
    2. Click Export.
    3. Choose to Save the file.
    4. Click OK.

Import your Gmail contacts into Outlook

Windows

  1. Click on File.
  2. Click on Open & Export.
  3. Click on Import/Export.
  4. Choose Import from another program or file.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select the .csv file you save from the Import a File window.
  7. Choose how you want Outlook to handle duplicate contacts.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select Contacts near the top of the Select destination folder box.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click Finish.

macOS

  1. Select the People tab in outlook for macOS.
  2. Select the contact folder in which to import the contacts.
  3. Drag the contacts.vcf file you exported onto the selected contact folder in Outlook for macOS.
